Air Conditioning and Climate Control in Mallorca
Climate control here is more than one trade. Air conditioning for a villa in August, warmth for a stone house through January, moving damp air out of an apartment shut since October and keeping a hotel open through the season are different problems, and they lead to different work. The six areas below are how that work divides. Pick the one your problem belongs to, or describe the property and we pass the request to air conditioning and heat pump companies working in your area.

Six areas, and what each one covers
Most requests sit clearly in one of them. If two describe the property, say so in the request; one company will usually cover both.

Start with the complaint, not the equipment
Almost nobody arrives with an area in mind. What people have is a complaint. Two rooms are unbearable from three in the afternoon and the rest of the house is fine. The whole property is warm and the nights give nothing back. January is cold and damp and there is nothing installed to deal with it. An apartment smells of the winter every time somebody opens it in spring. Or something was fitted once, still runs, and no longer does what it was bought to do.
Each of those points somewhere. A few rooms that suffer is air conditioning. A whole property that never cools down is air conditioning too, but a different specification of it. A cold January in a house somebody actually lives in is heating, and here that usually means a heat pump feeding a floor or a set of fan coils. Damp in a property kept shut is ventilation rather than cooling, and it is the complaint most easily answered with the wrong machine.
Writing the complaint down before speaking to anybody is worth more than knowing the vocabulary. It is what makes two quotes comparable, and it is the first thing a company will ask you for.
Five questions that decide the area
None of them needs a technical answer. They only have to be answered honestly.
-
01
Is anybody there in winter?
A property used between May and October has a cooling problem and almost no heating one, which keeps the whole conversation inside air conditioning. A house lived in through January has both, and that single fact is usually what moves it into heating or heat pumps instead.
-
02
Is it the heat, or the air itself?
Rooms that are too hot are a cooling question. A property that smells shut, marks in the corners or runs with water on the inside of the glass is an air and moisture question, and no amount of cooling capacity answers it.
-
03
Is it the whole property, or three rooms?
Whole-property cooling is a different specification rather than a bigger one, and it is what separates ducted systems from individual units inside the air conditioning area. Two or three rooms that suffer can be solved on their own, and often should be.
-
04
Is the equipment right and the way it runs wrong?
A system that cools well but conditions empty bedrooms all afternoon, or one that has held a house at a comfortable temperature since April for nobody, is a controls problem. Replacing the equipment does not fix it. That is what smart climate control is for.
-
05
Is anything losing money while it is off?
In a house a failure is uncomfortable. In a dining room, a shop or a floor of bedrooms it costs by the hour, and the work has to happen around opening rather than instead of it. Same equipment, different job, and it belongs in the commercial area.
Where two areas meet
The six do not have clean edges, and the overlap is where the confusion usually sits. Cooling equipment nearly always heats a little as well, so a property that only ever bought air conditioning has some winter warmth it never went looking for. Whether that is a heating system or merely takes the chill off is a question about the building rather than about the machine, and the air conditioning pages are where it is answered.
Heat pumps and heating overlap from the other side. A heat pump is how the heat is made; a floor, a radiator or a set of fan coils is how it reaches the room, and the two decisions are taken together, which is why they are two areas rather than one page. Smart control sits on top of whatever is installed rather than beside it, and commercial is largely the same equipment under a different set of constraints.
None of that has to be settled before asking. Sorting the overlap is what a company does while it prices the work, not what you have to do before describing it, and a property that sits across two areas is an ordinary request rather than a complicated one.
What to have ready before asking for quotes
None of it is technical, and all of it changes the answer.
- What the property is built of, and roughly how big it is
- Which rooms are the problem, at what time of day and in which months
- How many months of the year somebody is actually there
- Whether the ceilings or the floors are open, or could be
- What is installed now, and what it does badly
- Whether hot water is part of the question
- Whether anybody is at the property to let a company in
How your request reaches a company
Mallorca Climate Control is a comparison service. A request for climate control goes to the air conditioning and heat pump companies on our list; they quote the work and carry it out, and any agreement is between you and the company you pick.
-
01
Describe the job
Tell us the property, roughly what you want and where it is. Photographs and a rough plan help, though neither is required.
-
02
We match it
The request goes to companies that work in your area and take on this kind of job at this size.
-
03
They quote you
Each company contacts you directly with its own price, timing and approach. We do not set any of it.
-
04
You compare and choose
Put the quotes side by side and take the one you want, or none of them. Using the site costs you nothing.
I do not know which area my problem belongs to. Where do I start?
With the complaint rather than the equipment. Which rooms, at what time of day, in which months, and what is installed now. That description is enough for a company to tell you which systems are worth pricing, and it is enough for several companies to be answering the same question.
What if it covers two areas?
That is common, and it is not something to resolve before asking. Say what the property does badly in summer and what it does badly in winter. The answer that comes back will tell you whether it is one system, two systems, or one system and a change to the way it is run.
Can one system do both heating and cooling?
Yes, and most air conditioning already does to a degree. The question is how much heating the property actually needs. Taking the chill off a room for a weekend in March is a different requirement from keeping a stone house comfortable through January, and only the second usually justifies a heating system in its own right.
Do I need heating on Mallorca at all?
For a property used in summer, rarely. For one occupied in winter, anybody who has spent January in an uninsulated stone house will say yes. It is not that the outside temperature is severe; it is that the buildings were made to stay cool and are very good at it.
Is it cheaper to do everything at once?
Usually, while the property is open. Pipe routes, electrical supply and plant positions are shared, and doing them once is less work than doing them twice. In a finished house that is being lived in, phasing is often the more sensible answer, provided the first phase is designed with the second one in mind.
Still not sure which area it is?
Describe the property and the problem once, and let several companies tell you what they would price.
