Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Costs in Mallorca
The calculator below gives a range from published island market rates, and the rest of the page is about what moves it, because the same equipment can be a day of work in one property and a fortnight in another. Everything under it is a question you can put to any company that quotes you.
What climate control costs on Mallorca
Pick what fits and the range moves with it. It is an indication built from published island market rates, IVA included, not a quote – only a company that has seen the property can give you one.
The equipment is the small part
What a visitor is really buying is the work around the machine: refrigerant pipework between the indoor and outdoor units, a condensate drain that has to fall the whole way to somewhere sensible, an electrical supply that carries the load, and whatever has to be opened up and made good again to run all three.
That is why a price given over the telephone is a price for the easy version of the job, and why two written quotes for one property can differ substantially while naming the same machine on the same wall.
It is also why the exclusions are worth reading before the total. Electrical work, making good, removal of the old system and the paperwork for the connection are the four that most often separate a cheap quote from a complete one.
What moves the price of an installation
Roughly in order of how much each one matters.
- How many rooms or zones are being conditioned
- Ducted or split, which is a different quantity of work rather than a different machine
- How far the outdoor plant is from the rooms it serves
- Whether the route runs through open ceilings or finished ones
- Whether the electrical supply carries the new load as it stands
- Whether an old system is being removed and disposed of
- How much making good is included, and to what finish
- Whether heating is in the specification or only cooling
- Whether zoning and controls are in this price or a later one
- What the company still covers once the system is running
What each kind of job is priced on
The unit of pricing differs by service, which is another reason totals are hard to compare across them.
-
01
Installation
Priced per indoor unit or zone, plus the work of connecting them. The count of rooms is the number that moves it most.
-
02
Ducted systems
Priced on the duct layout as much as on the equipment, which is why the design work is a larger share of this job than of any other.
-
03
Heat pumps
Priced on the heat loss of the building and on what the system feeds, since underfloor, radiators and fan coils are three different installations.
-
04
Underfloor heating
Priced on area covered, the floor build-up, and whether the floor is already open.
-
05
Repair
Priced on the fault. A diagnosis without measurements is an opinion, and it is how the wrong part gets replaced.
-
06
Maintenance
Priced per visit and per system. What separates two offers is what each visit actually covers.
Running cost is decided by how the system is used
The installed price is not the whole cost and it is often not the larger half. What a system costs to run is decided by how much of the property is conditioned, for how long, and how well the building keeps what it is given.
A house on one thermostat conditions everything to suit whichever room the sensor is in, so bedrooms are cooled all afternoon in order that a living room is comfortable at six. Zoning changes that bill far more than a more efficient outdoor unit would, which is why it is worth arguing for at the quotation stage rather than adding later.
Shading and insulation belong in the same conversation. Heat stopped outside the glass never has to be removed by anything, and a machine rejecting heat into a hot corner with no airflow works harder for the same result.
How to make three quotes comparable
- Write the property and the requirement down once, and send the same description to everybody
- Ask each company what its price excludes, in writing
- Ask how the capacity was arrived at, and on what about this property
- Ask where the outdoor unit goes and what route the pipework takes
- Compare the exclusions and the assumptions before comparing the totals

What moves an installation price
Where does the range in the calculator come from?
From published Mallorca trade sources rather than from this site. Every rate behind it is a market figure with a citation, IVA included, and the range is that figure plus or minus a fifth. It is an indication of what the island charges for the choices you picked, not an offer, and no company has seen your property when it is calculated.
What is not in the figure?
The anti-corrosion treatment coastal property needs, removing and disposing of an old system, an electrical supply that has to be upgraded, builder work and making good, underfloor heating, and any grant you may be entitled to. Those are the items that most often separate a cheap quote from a complete one, which is why they are named rather than folded into a rate.
Is the cheapest quote usually the wrong one?
It is usually the one that has assumed the least. No electrical upgrade, no removal of the old system, minimal making good, one zone rather than three. Those come back later, and later they cost more than they would have in the original scope.
Does it cost less to install outside the season?
The work is easier and companies are less stretched, which affects availability more reliably than it affects price. What it does avoid is discovering a problem in the week when everybody on the island wants the same engineer.
How many quotes should I get?
Enough that a difference is informative, and against the same written description. Two quotes tell you which is cheaper; three tell you which is unusual, and that is the more useful thing to know.
Get quotes you can actually compare
Describe the property once and let several companies price it against the same brief.
